The 5 Best Apps to Check Air Quality

The 5 Best Apps to Check Air Quality

We tested and compared 5 applications for measuring air pollution levels in the article below. Each of these applications has different functions, but the assumption is the same - measuring and presenting the levels of the most dangerous substances in the air.

Air Quality | AirVisual

AirVisual is an application that allows you to verify the smog level in real time for a location of our choice. Determines the level of pollution through the Air Quality Index on a scale of 0 to 500, while presenting the ranges of the level of air pollution and the risks arising from it.

In addition, it presents a 7-day forecast and shows health recommendations (e.g. limiting outdoor use).

AirVisual also has an "educational" tab with the ranking of the most polluted cities and news from the world regarding the problem of smog. Also, we can find out what the individual pollutants in the atmosphere are and what threat they pose (e.g. PM2,5; PM10 ; dioxins, ozone, etc.)

In addition, this application presents - after entering your profile - based on GPS data for how long and at what times during the day we were exposed to pollution (both inside and outside the building).

The application is available for both iOS and Android.

Kanarek

Kanarek is an application monitoring the level of air pollution, which uses among others - data from the measuring stations of the Main Inspectorate for Environmental Protection. The application shows the concentration of the most dangerous compounds in the air, among others: PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, O3.

The big advantage of the Canary application is the ability to enable notifications when we exceed the indicated percentage threshold of the acceptable pollution standard. Unfortunately, the application does not send data in real time (measurements take place every 2 hours).

In addition, we receive information about the most popular harmful compounds in the air and the standards set by PL and WHO.

The application is available only for Android.

Plume Air Report

Plume Air Report is a simple but aesthetic and visually appealing application. It provides real-time AQI (Air Quality Index) level and recommendations for physical and health activities outside.

The advantage of the application is the ability to check the forecast air quality for the next 12 hours for a given location. In addition, we get access to the blog and to "Instaplume", which is the ability to send photos taken to friends with information about the level of pollution in the place where we are.

The application is available for both iOS and Android.

Smog Poland

Simple and very user-friendly application. Smog Polska also uses data from the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and from over 600 private "Look02.com" stations. Every hour, it sends information on the level of PM2.5, PM10, CO, O3, NO2 and SO2, together with information about the permissible standard and the level of exceedance.

For an additional fee, we can buy access to smog notifications and a widget that shows in real-time the air quality status on screen

The application is available for both iOS and Android.

Airly

Airly is an application that uses data from the Provincial Inspectorate for Environmental Protection. It presents real-time data on atmospheric pollution in a simple and transparent way: CAQI - hourly air quality on a scale of 0 to 100, PM2,5 and PM10.

In addition, we can set a defined notification threshold for air pollution - both for exceeding a dangerous limits and falling below to safe levels. Thanks to this, we receive information on when to go outside and when to take measures to protect against smog.

What's more, Airly created a website where you can check the air quality from a browser.

The application is available for both iOS and Android.

Let's use smog applications

Each of the presented applications is a good solution to check the level of smog yourself and adapt health care measures to it or plan your day. The choice of services offered is so large that each recipient will find an application that suits his needs (design, functions, cost, device).
